The past year was filled with personal and professional challenges for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his former fiancée, Shailene Woodley.
In a new interview with NET-A-PORTER’s digital title, PORTER, the “Big Little Lies” star, 31, opened up about “the darkest, hardest time in [her] life” as she filmed the upcoming Showtime series, “Three Women,” while appearing to grapple with her split from Rodgers, 39, in early 2022.
“It was hard to film because I was going through the darkest, hardest time in my life; it was winter in New York, and my personal life was s—ty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months,” Woodley said.
“I was so grateful that at least I could go to work and cry and process my emotions through my character,” she continued of her on-screen persona in the television adaption of Lisa Taddeo’s book, which explored the intimate lives of three women in the country.
Rodgers, who just finished his 18th NFL season — in which his Packers missed the postseason after a disappointing 8-9 campaign — was first linked to Woodley in October 2020. Then, while accepting the NFL MVP award in January 2021, the quarterback thanked his “fiancée,” who was soon confirmed to be Woodley.
Although the pair appeared to be going strong throughout much of 2021, reports emerged in February of last year that Woodley and Rodgers were going their separate ways.
“It was an amicable split; it just wasn’t working,” a source told People at the time. “They’re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount. They will remain friendly; there’s no bad blood and no drama. It just didn’t work out for them.”
Since splitting from Woodley, Rodgers was most recently linked to Mallory Edens, the daughter of Milwaukee Bucks owner Wes Edens.
Much like how his rumored relationship with Edens, 27, has been subjected to online speculation, the same can be said about Rodgers’ football future.
On Saturday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the growing possibility that Rodgers could be on the trading block.
“The Packers are expected to move on from certain players, which Aaron Rodgers probably will not like. The issue here will be the $110 million left on his contract, and which team could afford it. But there is a real possibility that at some point this offseason, Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded,” Schefter said Saturday.
Rodgers isn’t the only veteran signal-caller who could be on the move this offseason, as impending free agent Tom Brady is rumored to be leaving Tampa Bay after three seasons.
